A CENTENARIAN celebrated her milestone birthday with a family bash – and tipple of brandy.
Florence Barron who lives at The Lodge Care Centre in Killamarsh enjoyed a party on April 13.
Florence, who has two children Edward and Margaret, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, was originally from Sheffield.
At the age of 13 she went in to service, working for a family in the city.
She married her husband Edward in 1939 and later got a job doing domestic chores at the teacher training college.
Around 12 years ago she moved to Killamarsh to live with her daughter and two years ago she moved to live at The Lodge.
Daughter Margaret Beach said: “She has always enjoyed reading, crosswords and watching a game of snooker on the television. She’ll be watching the snooker now.”
She added: “We celebrated with a lunch buffet with family and friends at the lodge.
“It went on all day and mum really enjoyed it.
“She’s still talking about it now.”
Florence has also always been involved with the Methodist Church.
Margaret added: “She enjoys a teaspoonful of brandy with hot water and sugar every day.
“She says it is that which has kept her going.
“She has always been a good cook, enjoyed good food and clean healthy living.”
