Tidza gearing up for Big Saturday

Festivities for Tideswell Wakes Week are well underway, with a bumper programme of events on offer on Saturday.

There will be a junior disco and family evening at the George Hotel from 6pm tonight (Thursday) with a folk music night at the Horse and Jockey from 9pm and the big wakes quiz at the Star Inn at 9.30pm.

Tomorrow (Friday) there will be a grand wakes games night with barbecue, bouncy castle and the X Factor’s Charlie at the Horse and Jockey from 6pm. The Tideswell Fell Race also takes place, with registration at 7.15pm for 7.45pm at Tideswell Dale car park.

The 4.4 mile race is open to over-16s only with a £4 entry fee.

On Saturday, known as Big Saturday, a wakes market and entertainment takes place from 9am to 5pm at the Pot Market, with face painting, a barbecue and more.

The carnival will assemble at 1.30pm at Chantry Court before parading through the village, led by Tideswell Band and Tideswell Wakes Queen Sophie and her retinue.

The torchlight procession leaves Wheston Bank at 9.45pm.
