Three men arrested after attack on Chris Henchliffe

Three men have been arrested in connection with an assault on Chesterfield man Chris Henchliffe.

Staff at Chesterfield Royal Hospital called police on Sunday to tell officers that a 26-year-old man had been brought to A&E by ambulance.

Investigations revealed he had been attacked by three men outside the Pomegranate Theatre in Corporation Street, Chesterfield, sometime between 4am and 4.30am that day.

Mr Henchliffe, who has serious head injuries, was later transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Two men, both aged 24, were arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. On Monday afternoon, police said a third man, aged 21, has also been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

All three men remain in custody and are being questioned.

Mr Henchliffe's family are holding vigil at his bedside as he continues to battle for his life following the assault.

People right across Chesterfield are also hoping and praying the young dad quickly recovers.

His sister Zoey Henchliffe said: "He's in intensive care, in a coma and fighting for his life.

"He has two bleeds and a fracture to the brain."

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to wish Mr Henchliffe a speedy recovery - and express their shock at the incident.

Mr Henchcliffe is understood to be a member of the infantry of the British Army.
