Three arrested and bailed after '˜sudden death' in Barrow Hill

Three people were arrested and bailed after the '˜sudden death' of a man in Barrow Hill, police said this morning.

Officers were called to a house in Campbell Drive on Friday afternoon after the 55-year-old was taken ill and subsequently died.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

It is thought he may have been involved in a dispute earlier in the day, according to police.

Two youths, aged 15 and 17, and a 22-year-old man were arrested in connection with the earlier incident and have now been bailed.

It is not yet clear what they were arrested on suspicion of.

Three police cars and two ambulances were called to Campbell Drive at 2.15pm on Friday and officers put up a cordon.

Shocked residents stood on nearby streets, talking and hugging each other for support.

One Barrow Hill man, who did not want to be named, said: “It is shocking.

“We do get trouble from time to time but nothing like this.

“It’s mad.”

A woman added: “My friend has lived in Barrow Hill for eight years and the worst she’s had is her wheelie bin being set on fire.”

Residents have taken to social media to tell of their shock at the incident and express their sadness at the man’s death.

Flowers and a candle have been placed on the doorstep of the house where he died.

A police cordon was also put up at a shopping area near Morrisons in Staveley on Friday afternoon.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have information relating to the man’s death.
