A new supermarket is planned for Chesterfield town centre.

Iceland wants to open a store at the former Poundworld shop in Vicar Lane Shopping Centre next year.

A spokesperson for Iceland said: "The opening date is not yet confirmed but is likely to be in the second quarter of 2019.

"Iceland store openings typically create approximately 30 new full- and part-time jobs."

Poundworld went bust in the summer and Iceland bought 19 of the budget chain's buildings - including the one in Chesterfield town centre - from administrators.

Iceland, which was founded in 1970, sells frozen, chilled and fresh ranges.
