Adams told police the drugs were for personal use and he had bought them in St Helen’s, in Merseyside.

The defendant, of Prescot Road, St Helen’s, Merseyside, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and heroin after the discovery in October, last year.

He told the court he had just been released from prison for the theft when he was arrested on a warrant for the drugs matters.

Adams added: “I am trying to put all this behind me.”

Magistrates sentenced Adams to a 12 months conditional discharge and warned that if he re-offends he will be re-sentenced for the drug offences.

Adams was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
