Thief caught with heroin and cannabis
A drug-user was caught with cannabis and heroin after he was arrested for shoplifting in Chesterfield at a Tesco store.
Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, March 16, how Stephen Adams, 48, was in custody for the theft when he was searched and found with cannabis and heroin.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “The defendant was in custody and was searched and he was found with cannabis with a street value of £10 and nine wraps of heroin with a street value of £90.”
Adams told police the drugs were for personal use and he had bought them in St Helen’s, in Merseyside.
The defendant, of Prescot Road, St Helen’s, Merseyside, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and heroin after the discovery in October, last year.
He told the court he had just been released from prison for the theft when he was arrested on a warrant for the drugs matters.
Adams added: “I am trying to put all this behind me.”
Magistrates sentenced Adams to a 12 months conditional discharge and warned that if he re-offends he will be re-sentenced for the drug offences.
Adams was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
