Police, paramedics and firefights were called to the scene of a burning car crash last night in Clay Cross.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said the car was “well alight” after the crash with a lamp post and telegraph pole, and emergency services rushed to the accident at about 1:30am on June 12, to extinguish the fire and help the young passengers.

The 18-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Polo was reportedly unharmed, but police confirmed two passengers required medical attention - an 18-year-old male sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital and a 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene.

The teenage male of Grassmoor was sat in the backseat of the car and rushed to Chesterfield Royal Hospital, believed to have suffered “serious injuries” said police.
