Charles Luke, 19, of St Johns Road, Staveley, went to the property at Haslam Court in Chesterfield after a night out.

Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard his former partner was awoken by loud banging at about 5am on March 25.

Jennifer Fitzgerald, prosecuting, said the woman went downstairs and opened the door to ‘try and get rid of him’.

Jobless Luke asked her to come outside but she refused and he then picked up a handful of pebbles and threw them at the house.

He also punched and butted the property – leaving blood on the front door – while shouting profanities.

Luke admitted smashing three windows, causing an estimated £1,000 worth of damage, during the hearing on April 13.

The pair had been in a relationship for three years before it broke down last December.

Magistrates heard Luke had been out with a friend before he committed the crime.

He had intended to walk home after the night out ended but went to his ex-girlfriend’s house instead.

Luke told the court some of the damage had been fixed and that he was paying for the cost of repairs.

Magistrates sentenced Luke to a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £250 compensation, a £60 victim surcharge and £80 court costs.
