THEY may have only been teenagers when they tied the knot – but 50 years later Dennis and Carol Gill’s marriage is a strong as ever.
The couple of Morris Avenue, in Newbold, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a trip to Whitby and a family party.
Carol, 67, was 17 when she and former miner Dennis, 70, married at Chesterfield’s Methodist Chapel.
She said: “We were very young when we met but I think being committed and having a family has kept us together.”
The couple have four children – David, Jennifer, Glen and Daniel – 12 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Dennis still works as a gardener, handyman and stone waller.
Carol added: “He’s my best friend, I don’t know what I’d do without him and hopefully he feels the same.”
