Technicians scoop top prize at national contest

Ricky Walton and Jason Williams from Langley Mill have won a national engineering award at the IRTE Skills Challenge 2016.

Ricky and Jason, who both work for bus firm trentbarton, won the Top Scoring Mechanical and Bodywork Award at the IRTE Skills Challenge, which aims to find the best bus and coach technicians in the UK, by testing their skills and knowledge in a series of mechanical, electrical and bodywork tasks.

Ricky joined trentbarton as a night fitter in February. Before that he worked as a technical advisor and travelled many countries within Europe for Arriva Midlands. Ricky is a valued and dedicated member of the team with a great sense of humour. His main interests outside of work are football, swimming and motor sport.

Jason Williams joined trentbarton as an apprentice at the age of 16. After qualifying, he was transferred to trentbarton’s Derby depot for two years before moving back to trentbarton’s Langley Mill depot, where he is now based. His main interests outside of work include track days, motor cross events, and mountain biking. As part of their prize, Ricky and Jason won high-end tool sets from Teng Tools and were presented with a certificate recognising their achievement.
