Teams gearing up for bed-push event
The Ilkeston Hospital League of Friends is again holding the annual bed-push on Saturday.
This year, five teams have been gearing up to compete for three trophies awarded for the most donations collected on their uphill ‘push’ up Bath Street.
The ‘push’ is of course a hospital bed, which always draws attention from passers-by.
Competing teams are from the fire service, the ambulance service, the Rotary Club of Ilkeston, Ilkeston district Co-ops and of course a team from the nursing staff at the hospital.
Starting at 8.30am, the Co-op team will reach the top of Bath Street having collected as much as possible on the way up.
The Mayor of Erewash, patron of the league, will meet the teams outside the Town Hall, where there will be a display of equipment that the league has bought for the hospital. This will include the recent purchase of two operating trolleys for the Diagnostic and Treatment Centre.
A spokesman for the league said: “A number of trolleys will be required over the new few years to enable the hospital to provide more specialist services, one of which is to enable medical consultants to spot cancers early using the ‘C’ arm – a new and revolutionary piece of equipment.
“We urge people to get involved and support the push, come along and shout your support.”
