Talented Derbyshire teens are set for success

Talented Matlock dancers showed off their skills at a recent workshop in a bid to further their dance training.

Around 25 Highfields dancers from year seven to ten, took part in the session with The Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), on January 20.

Held at the school in Lumsdale, the workshop included a live musician and was a fun and exciting opportunity for youngsters to participate in contemporary dance, and possibly be recommended to go on to further dance training.

The scheme was run by Dance4, which sent a talent spotter. They said the talent was so high that all 25 students who were taking part would be invited to audition for CAT gifted and talented dance programme.

Kerryn Wise, head of dance at Highfields School, said: “I am so proud of our young dancers.

“They have done tremendously well to have been ‘spotted’ like this, and they now have a real opportunity to take their dancing on to the next level, at state-of-the-art facilities with excellent tuition.

“We have an excellent record of encouraging talented dancers here, with some ex-pupils reaching the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and LABAN.”
