SWANWICK: Historian Wendy Butt gives talk on Swanwick area to WI branch

The April meeting of Swanwick WI was opened by president Pam Hall who updated everyone on the events for the coming months. These events include a national raffle draw, a visit to the Theatre Royal and a visit to the National Arboretum.

The Derbyshire federation is running a number of competions, notably the Denman Cup for budding writers. The three winning entries will be sent forward to the national competition. Various craft and cookery competions are open for entry at the Derbyshire County Show and the Bakewell Show.

The evening’s speaker was Wendy Butt, a local historian, who has researched the history of the Swanwick area from Anglo Saxon times to the present day using estate records and family papers.

The next meeting, a resolution meeting and craft evening, will be on May 15 at the Swanwick Methodist Church.
