Success for Ilkeston student

Research by an Ilkeston student at the University of Derby Buxton is helping a new type of visitor to Chatsworth House understand how the stately home preserves its heritage while giving tourists a great day out.

Schools and colleges have begun to use Chatsworth as an example in travel and tourism courses which teach techniques in giving visitors the best experience so that they come back again – and create the income needed to safeguard its history for future generations.

Bonnie Foulds, from Ilkeston, and two fellow tourism undergraduates, researched the information needed to describe the behind-the-scenes commercial life of Chatsworth and also ensured it satisfied syllabuses from A level to degree level so the stately home’s guides can use the same tour for all.

Bonnie said: “This was one of the best experiences since being at the University of Derby, being able to work alongside such a huge attraction and develop a great resource for local students. It has inspired me to focus my final year independent study on Chatsworth as an educational site.”
