CONSTRUCTION trainees proved they are at the top of their game after doing well at the East Midlands regional heat of SkillBuild.

Jamie Wasley, from Ripley, Lewis Cowlishaw, from Ripley, Liam Skull, from Alfreton and Thomas Lowe, of Holmesfield clinched honours at the East Midlands regional heat of SkillBuild.

The competition, managed by CITB-ConstructionSkills, saw more than 100 budding trainees build, plaster and paint their way to success to be crowned among the best in their chosen field.

East Midlands’ regional heat took place at West Nottinghamshire College, on April 24. The highest scoring competitors could compete at the SkillBuild UK final, in September, which is hosted by Preston College.

At SkillBuild trainees compete in a variety of trades including bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, dry walling, joinery, painting and decorating and plastering. Outstanding competitors from the UK final could also be selected to represent the UK at the next WorldSkills competition, in Leipzig, Germany, in 2013.
