'˜Substantial amount' of money taken after thieves use explosive device to break into Tibshelf cash machine

Thieves made off with a '˜substantial amount' of money after using an explosive device to break into a Tibshelf ATM.

Four people dressed in black with face coverings used an explosive device to successfully empty the cash machine at Tibshelf Co-Operative on High Street.

The attack happened between 1.58am and 2.05am on Wednesday, August 22.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “Some sort of device which caused a large bang and explosion was used to attack an ATM.

“Access was gained to the shop with a saw and once in the shop the back of the ATM was accessed and a substantial amount of money was stolen. Nothing else was stolen from the shop.

“Four people all dressed in black with face coverings then made off in a vehicle.

“We are not linking this attack to any others in Derbyshire.”
