Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard this month how Jason Dickenson, 38, admitted dishonestly receiving the stolen goods so he could sell them on to make a profit.

Prosecuting solicitor Robert Carr said: “This case arises from the theft of sunglasses from The Sunglasses Hut in South Normanton. There was CCTV in relation to the theft showing two offenders who appeared to arrive in a taxi from Mansfield.

“Some of the sunglasses were of the same design and were later being offered on ebay in the Mansfield area and police were informed and offers of the sale were traced to Dickenson and he was interviewed.”

Dickenson pleaded guilty to dishonestly receiving the stolen goods after committing this offence between March 1 and April 15.

The defendant told police he had been working in Mansfield Woodhouse and he was approached by a man and offered five or six pairs of glasses to buy for about £180.

The court heard how the sunglasses that Dickenson dishonestly received were valued at £1,335.

Dickenson thought he could make a profit by selling them on, according to the court.

Dickenson’s guilty plea and co-operation was taken into consideration when imposing his sentence.

Magistrates sentenced Dickenson, of Aspen Court, Forest Town, Mansfield, to a 12 month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work.

The unpaid work must be carried out within the next 12 months and this work will be supervised.

Dickenson was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
