Starkholmes gears up for some fun

There will be laughs and giggles galore in Starkholmes this weekend as residents gear up for the annual village fun day.

The event is being held this Saturday (June 8) in the village hall between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

The Village Royalty and the entrants for the fancy dress will parade from the village hall onto the playing fields for the opening ceremony by the Deputy Mayor of Matlock David Barker. The Queen this year will be Lucy Crown, attended by Princess Gemma Barwick, Rosebud Abigal Harper, and Pageboy Charlie Clark (see photograph).

Jeff Wheatley, Starkholmes Fun Day organiser, said: “We are particularly delighted to announce that the highlight of the fun day will be a fly-past by a Douglas Dakota from the Battle of Briton Memorial Flight.”

Organisers have put a strong emphasis on family entertainment again this year and there will be children’s races, tug-of-war, face painting, bouncy slide, ice-cream’s, refreshments, burger’s and many other stalls.

Entertainment will include the Belly Dance Flames, zumba, a children’s gymnastic display, medieval stocks, a penalty shoot out, and the traditional Maypole Dancing performed by St Giles Primary School.
