Spring was in the air at popular Derbyshire market

Daffodils made an appearance and a touch of spring was in the air at the Bakewell Market on February 22. Trade was brisk throughout with both finished cattle and finished hoggs dearer than last week. To deal with each department in a little more detail the store cattle section was usefully busy with no fewer than 284 head on offer. Steers peaked at £1,120 and feeding bulls to £840. What the figures do not reveal is the solid demand for store cattle at Bakewell.

Finished cattle numbers were down but trade up with top figures of 230p/kg and £1,585 per head.
