A '˜spotacular'event to support Children in Need

Matlock students enjoyed a '˜spotacular' day-long fundraising event held at Highfields School to back nationwide campaign BBC '¨Children in Need.

This year’s theme was ‘spots’, which some students reflected in their costumes on Friday, November 18.

Many others went all out dressing up, paying money for Children in Need for the privilege of not wearing their school uniform.

Sixth formers at the school chose the theme of film characters and raised more money by holding a dance-off against teachers. They also staged a version of The Generation Game.

Fundraising activities also included paying to play Pie Face, buying cakes and having spotty face painting.

Although normal lessons took place, some classes contributed money for the chance to play a quiz all about bears in honour of Pudsey Bear – BBC Children in Need’s mascot. The mascot was created and named in 1985 by BBC graphic designer Joanna Lane

The atmosphere in school was fun and productive.

Amy Hollinrake, head of year seven, said: “We love the way Children in Need catches the imagination of our students. They really get stuck into creative and imaginative ways of helping to raise money for such a worthy cause.

“Spots was a popular theme and some people went to amazing efforts. We all had great fun whilst being able to give something back and help others.”
