A dedicated friend has sacrificed her locks to raise money and awareness of a deadly disease.
Marie Lawton had her hair cut off raising more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care in honour of a friend who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
The brave catering manager decided to have the deed done in front of the children at Hayfield Primary School, where she works, as part of a skin cancer awareness day.
Marie, 60, decided she wanted to shave her head for charity after seeing how upset her friend was at the prospect of cutting her hair off due to the treatment she is receiving.
She said: “I decided I didn’t want to scare the children talking about cancer, so we decided to go down the route of skin cancer, and we had a sun awareness day so all the children came dressed in summer clothes.”
Now the hair has been cut, Marie, of Hazel Grove, is comfortable with how she looks.
“It feels so liberating,” she said.
