Excitement is building among Spireites fans ahead of this afternoon’s big Wembley clash.

In just under two hours, Paul Cook’s men will take on Peterborough in a bid to lift the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Thousands of Chesterfield fans have made it to the stadium and plenty more are on their way – turning the capital into a sea of blue.

Speaking at Wembley, Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins said the atmosphere was at fever pitch.

He added: “Come on, Spireites – we’re right behind you!

“Let’s bring the trophy home again!”

Charlotte Deane, who will marry her fiance Luke Mason next Friday, is hoping for an early wedding present in the form of a Spireites’ win.

She said: “It’s a great atmosphere and if they win it would be a fabulous start to the week of our wedding.”

David Leedham said: “I’m excited and expecting the Spireites to win 2-0.”

Dean Collins said: “Come on, you blues! We are buzzing!”

It is the second time in three years the Spireites have travelled to the national stadium – and fans will be hoping for a repeat performance of 2012 when the team beat Swindon 2-0 to lift the coveted trophy.

The match starts at 2pm – and the weather looks set to be beautiful with temperatures topping 20C.
