Spireites advertise for commerical head
Chesterfield FC have are looking to appoint a new head of commercial as the club attempt to recover from the '˜rafflegate' fiasco.
An advert has appeared on the club’s website inviting applications for the role which was until recently held by Kevin Fitzgerald.
Mr Fitzgerald left in disgrace last week after faking a raffle competition for a fan to join the team on its pre-season tour of Hungary - an incident described by director and company secretary Ashley Carson as ‘shameful’.
The advert says that commercial experience within a football club or comparable sporting organisations would be ‘beneficial’.
It also says candidates should have ‘excellent interpersonal and presentation skills’ be able to work within a team and on their own.
Candidates must finally be able to ‘raise the profile of the club locally’ by demonstrating ‘forward thinking, progressive commercial strategies’.
The deadline for applications is Friday, July 29.
The scandal attracted a great deal of attention on social media after it was featured on Twitter’s ‘moments’ feature. Chesterfield fan Jonno Turner’s series of tweets on the farce were viewed thousands of times on the social network. The fiasco also featured in national newspapers such as the Guardian and on national radio .
