Officers have been heading out to put the brakes on speeding motorists in Grassmoor and Shirland.
The South Eastern Safer Neighbourhood Team carried out speed checks along Birkin Lane in Grassmoor and Park Lane in Shirland following reports from local residents of motorists exceeding the 30mph speed limit.
PC Matt Rodda, PCSO Gary Green and PCSO Kate Hodnett, teamed up throughout the day on Saturday, January 17 to highlight the importance of safe and considerate driving.
One motorist was issued with a speeding ticket after they were found to be driving at 45mph along Park Lane in Shirland. Three motorists were also stopped and given words of advice after they were clocked at driving over the 30mph speed limit.
Three motorists were also stopped for excessive speeding during the checks along Birkin Lane in Grassmoor, with a top speed of 39mph being recorded.
PCSO Kate Hodnett from the North Wingfield, Pilsley, Stonebroom and Shirland Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Speed limits are there for a reason and when these are broken by motorists; they are not only putting themselves at risk but also the lives of pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
“We do listen to any concerns that our residents may have so I would encourage people to report any issues of speeding to us so that we can help to make our roads safer.
“We will continue to carry out speed surveys over the coming weeks and months to target speeding motorists.”
