Spate of crashes on county’s roads

A series of serious collisions occurred on the county’s roads on Saturday.

Fire crews from Ripley and Alfreton were called to Steam Mill Lane, Ripley, at 7.20am after two cars collided, leaving a woman trapped. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

At 7.45am, an accident happened on the notorious 13 bends road near the Baslow junction. Hathersage and Bakewell fire crews were called as there was a person trapped. At 8.20am while they were there, a motorcyclist crashed on the same part of the road. The woman was airlifted to hospital.

At 8.05am, firefighters from Staveley and Clowne were called to Worksop Road in Whitwell after a four-car collision. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said three of the cars left the road due to ice. A woman was freed from her vehicle and taken to hospital.
