Sue Stamenkovic of South Normanton was received as a fully-accredited Methodist local preacher at an accreditation service on Saturday at St John’s Methodist Church at Sutton-in-Ashfield. The church was packed for the service, which was conducted by John Whitehead, local preachers’ secretary in the Borders Mission Methodist Circuit. An address was given by the circuit superintendent minister, the Rev Mike Redshaw, who presented Sue with a Bible. Sue, who replied, received greetings from ministers and local preachers in the circuit.
A letter from the president of the Methodist Conference, the Revnd Dr Mark Wakelin, was read by the district local preachers’ secretary Philip Holmes.
Readings were given by the Revnd Judi Smart of Long Eaton, formerly superintendent minister of the former South Normanton circuit, and the Revnd Derek Kellington of South Normanton. Prayers were led by the Rev Alan Boyd.
Musical items were given by the St John’s Cameo Group, and a flag-twirling demonstration to a spiritual soundtrack was given by Graham Reed.
The service was attended by members of many local churches as well as relatives, colleagues and friends of Sue. A buffet supper followed.
