South Darley and the Amazing Technicolour Performance

The children gave a performance to remember at the end of April as they performed to packed audiences over two nights at South Darley Village Hall.

Despite a rearrangement of the dates due to the snowy conditions before the Easter holidays, the entire school remembered their parts and gave a passionate, accomplished performance.

Starring Luke Crapper as Joseph, the show told the tale of how the dreamer, shunned by his brothers, became the pharaoh’s right hand man and was able to help his family in their hour of need.

The show was held together by Cally Needham, Amy Normington and Hannah Bristow-Booker, who, as narrators, had to learn a huge amount of lines to sing. Fortunately they managed this fantastically and set the foundations for memorable cameos such as Andrew McLeod’s Elvis style Pharoah, and Ben Jordan’s Potiphar. The brothers, marshalled by Poppy Warburton as Reuben, acted and sang their hearts out, whilst the ‘adoring girls’ energetically led the dancing during ‘Song of the King’.

‘Any Dream Will Do’, provided a stunning ending as a golden chariot entered the stage and the full majesty of Joseph’s coat was revealed.

Headteacher, Paul Wilde, thanked parents and staff for all their support.

He said: “I am so proud of all the children for what they have achieved. All of them put in so much effort and deserve a huge amount of praise. I’m sure they will be humming the tunes for the rest of their lives.”
