For the first time on Saturday, a newly-formed committee will hold this year's annual carnival.

A colourful parade will start from Ford Street, New Tupton, at 1pm and the main events – starting with the crowning of the carnival Queen – will take place at the Ford Street play area from 1.50pm.

Throughout the afternoon, people will be able to enjoy a number of attractions, including an acrobatic display, music and dance and a Viking re-enactment.

Vicky Bytheway, treasurer of Tupton Carnival committee, said: "This week, residents are displaying scarecrows in memory of one of our members who sadly passed away earlier this month.

"We are all hoping that everyone in the village will come out in force and have a happy and enjoyable day in her memory as we know that this is what she would have wanted."
