The eagerly-anticipated extravaganza, celebrating the wonderful world of science fiction and comic book fantasy, was due to take place inside the Devonshire Dome - home of the University of Derby’s Buxton campus - on Saturday.

However due to heavy and persistent snowfall in the area throughout today (Friday), the event has been postponed.

It has been rescheduled for Sunday May 15.

The University of Derby tweeted: “The Buxton Campus is now closed until Monday morning due to heavy and persistent snowfall.

“The comic-con event has been postponed.”

Organiser Steven Howard said the decision had been taken on health and safety grounds.

“It is with great regret that tomorrow’s UNICON has had to be postponed,” he posted on Facebook.

“The decision was taken this afternoon by Devonshire Dome not to allow the event to go ahead due to health and safety concerns from today’s snow and overnight forecast.
