Two men were rescued from a fire after a neighbour was alerted by a smoke alarm.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at a flat on Flamsteed Crescent, Chesterfield, just before 7am this morning.

The men were saved by paramedics and fire crews who battled the blaze.

Police were in attendance.

It is not know what caused the fire.

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “In this case, a neighbour was alerted by the smoke alarm.

“You’re twice as likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a working smoke alarm.”
