BURGLARS are warned there’s no place to hide, thanks to the use of new crime-busting equipment in North East Derbyshire.
Police vehicles in the district are now equipped with new ‘UV torches’ which show up if a person has come into contact with Smartwater property marking ink.
The torches, which will detect tell-tale stains on people’s skin weeks after they touch items which have been marked, will be used on people suspected of theft.
They have been bought thanks to a £800 grant from the North East Derbyshire Community Safety Team.
Cllr Lilian Robinson, Member with responsibility for Community Safety, said: “Our district is one of the safest places to live in the country, but that doesn’t mean we are complacent when it comes to deterring thieves.
“More and more property across the district is now marked with this invisible ink, and would-be offenders are warned that these new torches can be used to quickly identify if a suspect has been in contact with marked goods.”
