The council’s enforcement officers will also deal with 36 breaches of the council’s Hackney carriage and private hire vehicle licensing policy.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, the borough council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The safety of the public is our number one priority.

“Our licensing policy requires Hackney carriage and private hire vehicles to undergo strict inspections twice a year.

“The most serious faults found during this enforcement operation were dealt with on-the-spot by police and were subsequently easily remedied.

“We will continue to work closely with operators throughout the year to ensure public safety and we’re pleased that the vast majority of drivers were complying with the rules.”
