Sick 10-week old puppy dumped on Derbyshire street

The ten-week-old Collie - who has been named Faith - was found by a member of the public in Manchester Road on Saturday night.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Steve Wickham said: "Poor Faith was not in a good way when she was found. She was very lethargic, was missing fur, was covered in mange and had sores all over her body. She was also very unsteady on her feet and her stomach was swollen.

"It is very lucky that Faith was found when she was as at only a few weeks old she would have been very vulnerable out on the streets by herself - anything could have happened to her.

"Thankfully she's now getting care at the RSPCA's Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, where she has been curled up sleeping and recovering from her ordeal.

"We do not know where Faith has come from as she is not microchipped and was not wearing a collar so we are relying on the public to get in touch with us with information. If you know anything, contact us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018."

Faith's abandonment comes just two weeks after the RSPCA released figures showing that animals are more likely to be abandoned during the summer months.

Mr Wickham added: "We think it is very important for people to research thoroughly when they take on a new pet - whatever that animal may be they need to make sure it will suit their lifestyle and that they will be able to provide for it for the entirety of its life, however long that may be."

It is hoped Faith will be available for rehoming soon.
