Shoplifter threatened Chesterfield garden centre staff with knife

A shoplifter who stole a number of scented candles from a garden centre threatened staff with a knife when he was challenged outside.

The offender stole a selection of Yankee Candles from Brook Garden Centre, in Whittington Way, Whittington Moor, Chesterfield.

He concealed them in his coat and was walking out of the shop when staff challenged and tried to detain him.

A struggle ensued and the man then threatened staff with violence, before revealing a yellow craft knife.

A further struggle took place and the man eventually ran off.

No one was injured.

He was white, about 5ft 10ins and of chubby build with black hair. He was wearing a green t-shirt with a black coat over the top, dark jogging bottoms and dark trainers.

Police want to hear from anyone who may recognise the description of the offender or who might have information relating to the offence, which happened at about 3.30pm on Friday, May 20.
