Shocked residents unnerved by Matlock stabbing

Residents were left shocked after a man was stabbed at a property on a Matlock estate.

A 26-year-old man was stabbed about 2.15pm, on Monday, November 17, on the Hurst Farm Estate near Lumsdale Crescent and Hazel Grove not far from Castle View Primary School.

Police originally believed the man had been approached by two men before one of them stabbed him in the chest and he had to be taken to hospital.

However, following further investigations a 25-year-old woman, from Matlock, has been arrested under suspicion of assault after the attack.

Nearby neighbour Martyn Gillie, 56, said: “I was taking the dogs out for a walk and noticed a lot of police activity around 2.45pm and Hazel Grove was closed off at both ends.

“Someone who had walked through the area told me there had been a stabbing. It’s just not the sort of thing you would expect to happen in this area.

The 26 year-old victim, from Matlock, was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital and police have said his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A police spokesman said: “A 25-year-old woman from Matlock was last night arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.

“It was originally reported that the victim had been stabbed by one of two men who had approached him in the street but detectives do not now believe that to have been the case.”

Police are appealing to anyone that was in the area at the time to contact them with any information by phoning 101 and quoting incident number 396 of November 17.
