A vicious knife attacker who stabbed a man in the chest has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Piotr Karasinski denied wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in public.

Police were called with reports of a stabbing on the evening of Victoria Street, Shirebrook, on Monday, May 25 after a 43-year-old Polish man had been stabbed with a knife.

The 50-year-old attacker was charged with carrying both a knife and a piece of wood as two offensive weapons, and has now been found guilty.

A man who stabbed another man in the chest in Shirebrook has been jailed for seven years.

A police spokesperson said: "Karasinski was not at the scene when officers arrived but handed himself in the next day.

"The victim suffered a punctured lung and was taken to hospital for treatment."

The offender, of Main Street, Shirebook, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on November 11 and will be deported once he has served his sentence.

The court ordered that a key witness, commended for his actions, should be given a £500 reward.
