Shirebrook double-murder accused appears in court

A man charged with murdering a mother and daughter in Shirebrook has appeared in court via videolink.

Christopher Whelan, made an appearance during the short hearing at Nottingham Crown Court today, Friday, April 22.

The 20-year-old is accused of killing 51-year-old Julie Hill and her 75-year-old mother Rose Hill at a house on Station Road on Thursday, February 25.

Whelan, of Dransfield Road, Crosspool, Sheffield, is being held on remand at HMP Glen Parva in Leicestershire.

Wearing a blue and white polo shirt, he only spoke to confirm his name.

Judge Michael Stokes QC adjourned the management hearing until Monday, July 6, so that psychiatric reports can be prepared.

Whelan was held on remand again.
