Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how Liam Healey, 23, of Cauldon Drive, Chesterfield, was released from prison on March 13 and went on to steal SD cards from a Wilkinson’s store on March 16 and DVDs from a Superdrug store on March 17.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “He was released from a custodial sentence and went on to steal SD cards from Wilkinson’s and the following day he stole DVDs from Superdrug where he tried to escape but was arrested by police. He’s got a prolific record for shop thefts.”

Healey pleaded guilty to the two thefts.

Defence solicitor Denny Lau said Healey, who has mental health issues, was released from custody with a £46 grant and he had no accommodation and was stressed and used his money to buy legal highs.

At the hearing on Wednesday, March 18, magistrates sentenced Healey to 12 weeks of custody and he was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and no costs.
