The 21–year–old, of Bolsover, was arrested last night on suspicion of criminal damage after numerous complaints were made to the police by members of the public concerned for the animal’s well–being.

This came hot on the heels of an earlier arrest of a 20–year–old man, of no fixed address, on the same charge.

A police spokesman said the animal is believed to have been ‘treated cruelly’. Officers are currently unable to say what the breed of the dog was or give any details of how it might have died.

The dog’s body has been sent to a pathologist for a post mortem examination to determine cause of death.

The two men have been bailed pending further enquiries.
