Street Lane Primary School pupils hosted the annual event to raise funds for school equipment including a set of iPads, a new oven and outdoor play equipment.

Each class was given a £10 budget to try and think of as many imaginative and creative ways to raise funds as possible. This year the £10 per class was donated by school governor Jane Stephens.

Each class took different approaches and thought of different ideas. The children researched and decided on stalls and prices. These included cake and refreshment stalls, Christmas card stalls, and a sweet, teddy bear and chocolate tombola.

The children then ran these stalls on Friday, November 27, for family, friends and members of the local community.

Years 2, 3 and 4 wrote to a range of local companies to ask for donations for the event.

Some of the donations included chocolate from Thorntons, vouchers and prizes from Tesco in Alfreton, Morrisons, Rapport and Georges in Belper, a family voucher from Butterley railway, and two £5 vouchers from Sainsburys in Ripley.

Morley Hayes also donated a £38 tea for two, Denby Pottery a family pass to their pottery tour, Clarkes in Ripley gave a child’s china tableware set and Crich Tramway museum a family ticket to the attraction.

The event raised £497 and teacher Amy Bestwick said the children had thoroughly enjoyed the event.

She said: “The children really enjoyed getting stuck in. Each classes team work and creativity comes to life and it’s a brilliant way to enter into the Christmas season.”

The children are now looking forward to their Christmas events including the nativity.

They are running a special VIP nativity afternoon for all the local businesses who supported them during enterprise week on December 14.
