MORE scams are being reported than last year, according to the latest figures released by Derbyshire County Council.
They have issued a warning to consumers after trading standards received 690 reports of con attempts from April 2011 to March 2012, compared to 556 for the previous year – a 24 per cent increase.
Cllr Kevin Parkinson, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We would urge members of the public to be extra cautious. These fraudsters have only one thing in mind - to con people out of money. The simple advice is that if an offer appears too good to be true it probably is.”
