The Countess of Wessex had been due to attend Gussie's Kitchen at Saint Augustine's Church to receive a tour and meet people who use the foodbank on a regular basis.

A Palace spokesperson told the Derbyshire Times: "The Countess of Wessex travelled by helicopter to attend engagements in Northampton and Derbyshire on Tuesday.

"Due to inclement weather, the return journey was brought forward for safety reasons and the final engagement of the day in Chesterfield was subsequently cancelled.

"The visit will be rescheduled in due course."

Police attended the church on St Augustine's Road this morning and a cordon was put up.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Officers were there conducting a search as part of a pre-planned visit."

The spokesperson added that it was a 'general' search.
