Two Royal Naval Reservists from Derbyshire took part in the prestigious Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Petty Officer Derek Parsons from Codnor and Able Seaman Tristan King of Chesterfield, both serve with HMS Sherwood, the East Midlands’ only Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) unit, and volunteered to represent their ship’s company as part of the RNR’s contingent at the annual festival.
The Royal British Legion hosted the annual Festival of Remembrance on November 12, to commemorate all those who have lost their lives in conflicts.
Derek and Tristan joined specially selected servicemen and women from around the country at the event, as well as military bands and a drumhead service. Two shows were performed, with the second being attended by members of the royal family.
Derek said: “It was an honour to have been selected to represent the RNR at the event. I felt a great sense of pride when I took my place within the muster of service personnel at the Royal Albert Hall in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen. During my RNR career I have been a part of many royal events, but participating in the festival is something I have always wanted to take part in.”
