Royal fire: latest

ALMOST a month after the fire at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, estate officers are working to get the main structure of the building back on track.

The fire damaged area in the main entrance has now been completely demolished and the trust will begin to tender the rebuild and refurbishment work in this area over the next few weeks.

Assessment is continuing on other main entrance fixtures and fittings which were damaged by smoke and water including flooring, seating and the reception desk to determine if these will need replacing in full.

Following the loss of the on-site cafe, temporary facilities will be installed in the staff kitchen, to ensure all visitors and staff have access to hot meals at the hospital.

The fracture clinic and orthopaedic clinic have been on Staveley Ward, but were due to be moved back to outpatient suite 8 on Monday of this week.
