Roadshow to help Peak District businesses benefit from Le Tour

A campaign is under way to help local businesses and community groups benefit from Le Tour de France when it comes through the Peak District on July 6 2014.

The Peak District National Park Authority and Welcome to Yorkshire are inviting businesses and community groups to a roadshow on Friday September 13 (10am-12noon) at Thornbridge Outdoors Centre in Great Longstone, near Bakewell.

Peak District National Park chief executive Jim Dixon said: “We want to help local people take advantage of the opportunities offered by the world’s top cycling road-race as it comes through the Peak District on Day 2.

“The dominance of UK riders over the last two years, coupled with international interest, means Le Tour will attract a global audience of visitors and TV viewers. On July 6 they will focus on the stunning backdrop of the Peak District, so this will be our shop-window to the world.

“We want to advise local businesses on promoting their products and services, and community groups about setting up Le Tour events as part of a 100-day cultural festival in the run-up to the Grand Départ in Leeds on July 5.”

The cyclists start Day 2 at York, entering the Peak District at Holme village, then tackling one of the highlights of Le Tour – the challenging ascent of Holme Moss, followed by a sweeping descent of the Woodhead Pass. They pass the Langsett ranger centre and on through the picturesque village of Bradfield before finishing in Sheffield city centre.

Business managers who attend the free roadshow will be given a fact-pack about Le Tour, useful links and contacts, promotional information, advice about adapting products and services, preparation for bookings and ways to welcome different nationalities.
