Roads are gritted in preparation for icy weather

Gritters are out and about this week making sure Dales roads are saef this winter.

With freezing temperatures forecast and the possibility of some snow on higher ground in the days ahead, gritter drivers will be on standby around the clock to help keep roads clear.

Mike Ashworth, Derbyshire County Council’s deputy director for environmental services , said: “It’s been a busy week on the roads.

We’ve had to turn our attention quickly from flooding to the likelihood of snow.

“We grit around 1,555 miles of roads – around half the roads we look after which is more than most councils.
