Ripley driver caught with drugs during vehicle check by police

A motorist was caught with drugs after his vehicle was stopped by police carrying out checks.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, January 26, how Clive Donald Colledge, 43, of Nottingham Road, Ripley, was in Bakewell when his vehicle was flagged up for a check by police using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition System.

Prosecuting solicitor Rod Chapman said: “He was stopped while driving by police using an ANPR system and he was searched and they found a wrap of amphetamine worth £5.

“Colledge said it was for personal use.”

The court heard how the defendant is currently subject to a conditional discharge for possessing cannabis and amphetamine.

Colledge, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing the 0.5grammes of amphetamine after the latest incident on November 19, last year.

Defence solicitor Annette Thomas told the court Colledge is not dependent on drugs and there is nothing to suggest the amphetamine was for anything other than personal use.

Magistrates fined Colledge £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
