Ripley boss and pals conquer three peaks for desperate dogs

Director David Steeples, 54, of Ripley-based jewellery label company Magpie Europe, was joined by Wendy Hopewell and Amanda Reid during The Ultimate Challenge including Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

The team raised the cash for the Team Edward charity which helps rescue, rehabilitate and re-home stray and ill-treated Labradors.

A Team Edward spokesman said: “During the climb to the top of Ben Nevis the team was greeted with snow at the top. The cycle to Scafell Pike took over 12 hours in which they were battered by wind and heavy rain and the climb up and down Scafell and was completed in dense fog and mist.

“They then cycled towards Snowdon which resulted in them cycling 106.43 miles in just one day to stay on schedule. On the final day the weather improved and they completed the challenge in beautiful sunshine. They were met at the finishing line by supporters and their dogs.”

David, of Marehay, Ripley, Wendy and Amanda are all trustees of Team Edward and they support East Midlands Labrador Rescue and other dog rescues with kennel costs, veterinary bills and food parcels. Ripley companies including AIM Commercial Services, Candor Services and Mcabe Allen Accountants sponsored the team by providing kit. Team Edward’s Ultimate Challenge three peaks team cycled 450 miles in between climbing and hiking. Following a year of cycle and climbing training, the team embarked on their adventure between August 26 and 31.

Day One saw them climb Ben Nevis, hike down and cycle 54 miles.

On Day Two they cycled 94 miles followed by 97 miles cycling on Day Three. Day Four involved climbing Scafell Pike, before a descent and 59 mile ride.

Day Five involved a 90 mile cycle and Day Six included a 23 mile cycle, a climb up Snowdon and a hike down.
