Isabella Stone contacted the Mercury amid fears that illegally parked cars along Snitterton Road – where she has lived for 19 years – were posing a danger to the many pedestrians using the route to access t Sainsbury’s.

She said: “Pedestrians are forced to peer around illegally parked cars and cannot make a safe assessment.

“Added to that, many people’s sat navs still take them along the road – even though it is blocked off – and once they realise, they often speed back. My worry is that somebody will get seriously injured.”

Isabella and other residents along Snitterton Road have contacted Derbyshire County Council about the situation on several occasions, but have yet to see an improvement.

“When Sainsbury’s opened it was our understanding that there would be funds available to make our road safe – but this has not happened,” said Isabella.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesperson said that safety “remains a priority” and that the authority was “aware” of the problem.

“There is the potential for the introduction of yellow lines further up Snitterton Road. This could create clear turning space, and make the most of the road space available for safety, relieving congestion, and parking. This possibility is being further investigated following initial consultation,” the spokesperson added.
