A MOTORIST with previous alcohol-related driving offences has been jailed for 18 weeks after he was caught drink-driving.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Darren Reid, 31, of Byron Avenue, Alfreton, admitted drink-driving, failing to stop for police, having no insurance and driving without an appropriate licence.

Helen Griffiths, prosecuting, said police received information Reid had allegedly been stumbling in and out of his car and he was followed through Alfreton, initially failed to respond to police flashing lights and eventually stopped on Byron Avenue before running away. Police later found him on Addison Drive where he was arrested.

Defending solicitor Matt Evans said Reid had been celebrating a friend’s birthday and had not intended to drive but he made “a silly decision” but he denied stumbling and weaving in and out of the road with his vehicle. Magistrate Mr Mellor told Reid he had shown a disregard for the law.
